Edison Works

The Edison Schools have always had a great reputation as a District that provides a quality education for our students.  The District is known for its academic success throughout the area.  All you need to do to see this is read the newspapers when the State report cards are released every year.  Edison has always done well preparing our students academically and preparing our students for college.  We have always done our part academically, and our students who were looking for a career technical education went to EHOVE and received a quality career tech education.

Those days are over.  The changing needs of our world and the workforce needed, by not only area companies, but companies around the world, are forcing us to look at how we educate students and prepare them differently for the workforce in today’s world.

It began at different meetings where we kept hearing from local and regional CEO’s and plant managers that they were unable to fill well-paying jobs because they could not find qualified candidates in the area, and many times had to find qualified employees out of state.  If that were not bad enough, they were telling us in many cases that they just wanted to find employees who would show up to work and pass a drug test.  When we heard these things we were shocked and surprised.  Our next thought was we can do better than this.

With this in mind we began to develop the “Edison Works” program.  We began by developing our goals:

  • - Prepare students for current employment needs in our local area.

  • - Develop self-starting independent thinkers.

  • - Enhance math, science and technology education.

  • - Build partnerships between the Edison Local Schools and local businesses.

With these goals in hand we approached five (5) local companies to begin this venture with us.  Borgers, CertainTeed, Chef’s Garden, Freudenberg, and NASAall agreed to partner with us in developing this program to help our students develop the skills that will prepare them for the modern work world.  We cannot thank them enough for joining us and helping us to develop this program. Their knowledge and insight is extremely valuable in the development of the program.

As time goes on we hope to get more companies to work with us, but for now we wanted to start small and get a good foundation to make certain the program is successful for the benefit of our students.

We will continue to provide the great education that we have always been known for at Edison, and we will continue to work hand in hand with EHOVE Career Center to provide quality career technical options for students.  This program is meant to help all our students to be successful in life as they leave our “hallowed halls.”  After all, isn’t that what we are all about?
